    Electrical Hazard Signs

    This makes electrical hazard paramount.

Electrical hazard symbols are stylized with bold backgrounds and electrical hazard symbols to warn people that serious injuries can occur from burn, electric shocks, and hazards. Many electrical accidents happen globally, but with proper placement, these tragedies can be prevented. Electrical hazard signs and electrical hazard symbols are imperative in warning people that electrical hazards are probable while working and remind them to take the necessary steps to stay safe.

    Types of Electrical Hazard Symbols

There are different kinds of electrical hazard symbols used on electrical hazard signs to provide people with information of what electrical accident can happen and what its probable outcome might be.

The common symbol for electricity is a lightning bolt.

Voltage or Shock Hazard Symbol This symbol can be identified by using a bolt or a bolt through a hand, which lets people know that injury or death can occur from nearby high-voltage electrical equipment.

Buried Cable Symbol A bolt with an arrow pointed downward is used to identify buried cable signs.

Danger/Hazard (Universal) A triangle with an enclosed exclamation point is the universal symbol for danger and sometimes hazard as well.

  • Dangers of Substandard Wiring

    • When the wire size is too small for the current it will carry, it may cause heat and lead to fire.
    • Right wire sizes must be used for house wiring to avoid fire break and shocks.
  • Dangers of Illegal Connection

    • Illegal connections can lead to electrocution.
    • Report any illegal connection you notice to EKEDP.
    • When there are illegal connections it can cause electrical tripping or affect the distribution transformer./li>
    • Illegal connection can lead unplanned power outage.
  • Meter Tampering

    PLUGS AND ELECTRIC SOCKET

    What is meter tampering?

According to NERC (Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission), meter tampering and bypass refers to interfering with meters such that the readings are not reflective of the actual electricity consumed by the customers.

Meter tampering poses significant safety dangers to the people involved in tampering, to members of the public, EKDC operational staff

Safety Hazards or Dangers of meter Tampering

    • When a meter is bypassed, any electrical switches or appliances can become energized, increasing the risk of shock in other areas of the premises.
    • The person involved in the tampering can be electrocuted because safety procedures will be compromised.
    • Meter tempering increases the likelihood of electrical fires.

    Safety Tips

    • Report any form of meter tempering provided you see it or notice it to EKDC customer helpline or reach out to the nearest EKEDC office.
  • Cable Theft

    • Cutting electrical cables can expose you to high voltage electricity which can be fatal.
    • Unplanned power outage.
    • Loss of life
    • Damage to electrical equipment. (e.g transformer)
    • Explosion and fire outbreak.
